Culture of Kashmir

The Valley of Kashmir surrounded by snow clad Himalayas is one of the most beautiful destinations of the world. Kashmir is a home of different races, sects and civilizations that inhabited the Valley from time to time and left their impression on the culture of Kashmir. The music of Kashmir is influenced by Iranian music. The musical instrument Santoor used in Kashmir was invented in Iran. In the areas of Jammu Geetru is performed at the time of weddings and both men and women take part in this performing art. The Dumhal, Surma and Dogri are the famous dances of the region.


Kashmir has several pilgrimages like Hazratbal Mosque, Shankracharya Mandir, Raghunath temple are quite famous among them. Besides it the region has various Buddhist monasteries that spread all over Ladakh and Kashmir. With the passage of time the cultural heritage of Kashmir has evolved more and more and this beautiful valley has managed to protect itself from the ravages of progress to some extent.
