Amarnath Sightseeing

Amarnath is one of the most sacred shrines and important place of worship for the followers of Hindu religion. It is one of the difficult pilgrimages that cover religion, spirituality and adventure. Dedicated to Lord Shiva it is at a distance of about 140 Km from Srinagar in the northern state of Jammu & Kashmir. Estimated to be around 5000 years old it is visited by approximately 400,000 devotees every year. According to a legend here Lord Shiva told Parvati about the secret behind immortality which is listened by a pair of mating doves and thus become immortal. A natural ice stalagmite in the form of Shiv Linga is found inside the cave along with two other ice formations representing Ganesh and Parvati. To reach this sacred caves devotees undertake an arduous 45 Km long and difficult trek from the town of Pahalgam covering the Chandanwari,

Sheshnag, and Panchtarni. The other route is shorter that starts from Baltal and is just 12 Km long that covers Sonamarg and then finally reached to Srinagar. Apart from these difficult treks the route to Amarnath Shrine also faces major security threats due to terrorism in the area. The entire route is thus controlled and guided under the supervision of Indian Army.
