Amarnath Yatra Tour Information

Amarnath Shrine is one of the most sacred Hindu shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is about 140 Km from Srinagar and is visited by nearly 400,000 devotees every year. A natural ice stalagmite in the form of Shiva Linga is found inside the caves along with two other ice formations representing Lord Ganesha and Goddess Parvati. This lingam is observed to expand and contract with the phases of moon. According to the Hindu mythology it was here at holy cave of Amarnath Lord Shiva narrated to Parvati about the secret of life and eternity. Two mating doves accidentally heard this heavenly conversation and become immortal. The holy yatra of Amarnath is organized every year by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir during the month of Sharavan in (July and August). For performing this Amarnath Yatra tour the pilgrims are required to get registered which is done by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir at various locations through out India. Every yatri get a registration cum identity slip by the registration authority and they are advised to carry this identity slip through out the period of pilgrimage to ensure a smooth passage. The Amarnath Yatra has a trek of about 14,500 ft which is full of thrill and joy. The climatic conditions during this whole pilgrimage are uncertain. Devotees undertake the tour from Pahalgam which is very arduous 45 Km trek and is completed with in 4- 5 days. There is another shorter route to Amarnath from the town of Baltal from where the trek is only 12 Km long. The infirm or the elderly people can complete their journey on a horse back or they can ply with helicopters to Amarnath Shrine. Due to security risks the entire route is controlled by Indian army.
