Covered with snow capped mountains, sparkling streams and breathtaking glaciers Pahalgam is located at an altitude of 2,130 m above the sea level at the confluence of streams arising from the Sheshnag Lake and the Lidder River. At one point of time the hill station used to serve as the village of shepherds. Even today its pristine beauty is untouched by the ravages of progress. Now a day it is among the premier resorts of the Kashmir valley. Pahalgam is also associated with the holy yatra of Amarnath Cave. It is situated at a distance of 16 Km from Chandanwari and serves as a base for Amaranth Yatra that starts in the months of July till August. Pahalgam also serves as a base for number of trekking trails. One of the best options to explore the natural richness of this hill resort is to hire a pony. Apart from this visitor can indulge in various other adventure activities like trekking, fishing, horse riding, golf, angling etc. Some of the famous treks of Pahalgam are the Pahalgam-Sonamarg Trek, Chandanwari, Kolehoi Glacier and Sheshnag Lake. Pahalgam also offer various shopping opportunities to the visitors the popular among them are woolen goods like Gabbas and Namdas.


How to reach Pahalgam by Air:- The nearest airport is located in Badgam District of Srinagar. It is situated at a distance of 95 Km from Pahalgam. Srinagar is connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Amritsar etc. by the regular flight services. Air India, Indian Airlines, Kingfisher daily ply regular flights to Pahalgam.


How to reach Pahalgam by Rail:- The nearest railhead is at Srinagar which is 90 Km from Pahalgam.


How to reach Pahalgam by Road:- National Highway 1-A connects Srinagar with Jammu is a good all weather road which is maintained by Border Road Organization. The famous Jawahar tunnel that connects Jammu with Kashmir across the Pir Pranjal range falls en route. Visitors can hire state transport buses or private taxis to reach Pahalgam.
