Srinagar

Srinagar is the capital city of northernmost Indian state Jammu and Kashmir. Located in the Kashmir Valley it lies on the banks of River Jhelum. The name of the city is composed of a Sanskrit words Sri and Nagar. Word Sri means wealth while the Nagar means city. Therefore the city of Srinagar indicates a place of abundance of wealth. For many years Srinagar is the most pivotal center of the economy of Kashmir Valley and is the main contributor in the economic development of the city. The city is quite famous for its lakes and houseboat stays. Dal Lake and Nagin Lakes are quite famous among the visitors. The city has numerous gardens that represent the zenith of Mughal emperors and their rich culture. The city is a mix of diverse cultural traditions where the holy places like Hazratbal Shrine, Chari sharief, Shankaracharya Temple represent the great diversity of historical, cultural and religious diversity. One of the unique charms of Srinagar is its houseboats. These are like floating villas which are decked with modern amenities where the visitors can stay and enjoy their leisure time. How to reach Srinagar by Rail:-Srinagar doesn"t have its own railway station. The nearest railhead is Jammu which is directly connected with Agra, Amritsar, Bhopal, Mumbai, Kolkata, Cochin, Delhi, Varanasi etc. One can hire private taxis or state transport buses from Jammu railway station to reach Srinagar.


How to reach Srinagar by Road:- An extensive network of roads connects Srinagar to the important cities of Jammu and Kashmir. One can avail the services of local transport or state run transport buses to move in and around Srinagar.
